The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic

The final set of videos for this lesson explores the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic, which is a result that students will incorporate into their proofs throughout this course.

Proof of the FTA: Existence

The proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic offered in the two videos below is slightly different from that offered in the textbook. To prove this theorem, we first show that every integer greater than one can be factored as a product of prime numbers.

Proof of the FTA: Uniqueness

To complete our proof of the theorem, we now show that the factorization is unique.
